In early 2007, the award-winning filmmaking team of Brad Wilson, Ralph E. Portillo, and Jamie Elliott became interested in the real-life stories and work of GunnPoint Music & Ministries and The Power Company Kids Club. Started independently by two brothers and their wives, these dynamic organizations work in dramatically different worlds, while reaching thousands of people with the Gospel.
Randy and Heidi Gunn are award-winning music artists, as well as Cowboy Mounted Shooting champions. They travel the country, bringing their Cowboy Church to major horse-riding events and rodeos. Countless cowboys, cowgirls, and their families have been impacted by GunnPoint Music & Ministries.
John Gunn and his wife Michele tirelessly minister in one of the most violent neighborhoods in the nation through The Power Company Kids Club. Partnering with God, they have helped kids get out of and stay away from gangs, drugs, and violence.
Always looking for interesting faith-based projects, producer Brad Wilson was introduced to GunnPoint while attending Agape Fest, where he heard Randy and Heidi perform. After learning about GunnPoint and Power Company Kids, Power In Faith saw the interaction between these two remarkable and related organizations as natural material for an exciting and inspiring family film.
From the beginning, the GunnPoint Extreme Rodeo was considered the focal point for the story. This remarkable, high-energy family entertainment and outreach event combines music, mounted shooting competitions, comedians, and much more!
Following a year of development and after several screenplay versions of the story by writer and producer George Flynn, Set Apart began production. For accomplished actors Richard Roundtree, John Schneider, Jennifer O’Neill, and Raymond Barry, it was the powerful, positive, and inspirational message of the script that persuaded them to commit their gifts and talents to Set Apart.
Following six days of shooting in Los Angeles and three weeks in the beautiful Black Hills of South Dakota, Set Apart moved into many months of post-production. Director and producer Ralph E. Portillo worked with numerous technicians and music artists to carefully craft together the images, sounds, and performances captured during production into the final layers of film art.
Now, the powerful, uplifting message of Set Apart is ready to touch the hearts of all who see it.
